Choosing a Rabbit Hutch

I found an interesting article today on the “how to teach your children blog”. Although it does not go into specific indoor rabbit hutch sizes it does offer some simple guidelines for choosing indoor rabbit cages. In many case you can also use an outdoor hutch inside, specially if your are going to use a shed or garage so it does not really matter how good the hutches look, A large outdoor rabbit hutch and run might look a bit strange in your living room. In any case take a look at the article about indoor cages in the link below.

Rabbit Feeding, Housing, Litter training and More!

I came across this article today that initially just looked like a load of really cute bunny pictures. It really is worth taking a look just to see the great pictures. As an added bonus there is a tonne of great information in there about feeding rabbits, houseing, litter training, rabbit hutches, and mutch more. Here is a little clip from the article, theres also a great list of fruit and vegies you can feed your rabbits!

“You also want to provide fresh fruits and vegetables
daily. This will help balance out your rabbit’s diet. Generally, you
want to offer 2 to 4 cups of fresh fruits and vegetables per every 5
pounds. You want to make sure that all vegetables are washed and
organic because you never know what pesticides are used. For example,
because people do not eat the carrot tops or radish top, typically this
portion is sprayed with a pesticide, which can be dangerous, if not
fa
tal.”

washing your rabbits greens is often something that bunny oweners overlook.

Going Green With Your Pet Rabbit

Being Environmentally conscience is now more important than ever. I found and interesting article packed full of tips on how you can keep your pet rabbit in a “greener” Way. There are many small simple things you can do to keep your pets in a sustainable way.

“One fun approach to be environmentally friendly together with your bunny would be to allow them to gnaw on older phone books. They love the chewing and also the challenge, specifically with massive phone books. You can leave the phone book inside the rabbit cage at all times or you may make certain you keep an eye on him to make sure nothing goes wrong. You are rabbit will have fun even though saving the environment, 1 phone book at a time!”

Animal Activists Caution against Pet Rabbit Craze

Animal Activists in China and Taiwan are concered about an increase in abandoned rabbits during the “year of the Rabbit”, they fear that this will cause a pet rabbit craze and lead to increased number of rescue rabbits

A lot of people buy rabbits because they assume they are small and easy to raise and some parents chose rabbits as pets for their kids under this impression. We’ve seen many abandoned rabbits around schools and neighborhood parks and we could find more abandoned rabbits this year

You can read the full article here. There are similar concerns here in the UK and with the rspce and other rescue charities asking people to give careful consideration to the long term commitments of owning any pets.

Thinking about Showing Rabbits?

If you are thinking about showing rabbits here is an intersting interview with Leslie Sturgill that highlights some of the benefits young people can gain from showing rabbits

“The rabbits are fun. They’re characters. They’re like little pets,” she said. “They’re like little puppies. They’ll lick you, and they’re real soft and cuddly and fun to watch. When they play, they’re really cute.”

Please use the comment box below to share your experiences with showing pets.

This
rabbit brooch is one of my prized possessions. I found it at the
Vintage Fashion Expo (perhaps my favorite event of all time) last year.
One look at those huge teeth and loopy drunk eyes and I was deeply
smitten. In fact, buying this brooch set me off on a bit of an
animal-brooch-buying frenzy.”
