West Dorset RSPCA
When you think of a typical RSPCA rescue centre you imagine kennels full of dogs and cats. Of course there always are lots of dogs and cats but there are also loads of other animals as well, all of which desperately need re-homing. This raises the question is there such a thing as a typical rescue centre? They might appear the same at first glance but there all quite unique once you start to look a bit closer. For example the West Dorset RSPCA branch receives a lot of farm animals which can be difficult to re-home, which an inner city branch might not have this problem.
If you are thinking of re-homing a rescue animal you many already have a specific type of animal in mind, perhaps a dog or a cat to keep you company or a rabbit or guinea pig if you prefer smaller animals. However if you haven’t made your mind up about what pet you want to get you should consider a farm animal such as a pig or a goat, or if you don’t have enough room for these there are lots of geese, ducks and chickens as well which take up less room. Sadly these animals aren’t as popular perhaps because they aren’t considered to be pets, but they are still lovely animals in need of a home and with the right care they can be just as rewarding as keeping a cat or a dog.

You will need to contact the rescue centre to find out about their homing policy, many rescue centres perform home checks on adopters. Although we often help people find homes for their rabbits, we are not a rescue centre and have no facilities for taking rabbits in ourselves. If you own a rescue centre and would like us to feature it please send us your details.
