WHEN RABBITS WERE CALLED SWEETHEARTS…
It would seem that keeping rabbits as pets is not a new idea. In days gone by rabbits were kept in large open warrens but as people did not believe they could survive the winters some were kept in hutches to help guard against the colder weather. It is these rabbits that became known as Sweethearts – presumably because people came to know them more intimately and because, well, they are perfect sweethearts aren’t they?
