THE IMPORTANCE OF PERSONAL TESTIMONIALS…

when it comes to keeping rabbits we owe it to our friends to keep abreast of all the latest care knowledge and to always seek expert advice if we have any concerns. But personal testimonials are also important – these give first hand situations and help highlight the emotional costs of rabbit keeping. It is always good to have a mix of information and who else to help you than other rabbit lovers… so when I came across this I thought it was worth sharing: In the past six months the rabbit population at our house has reconfigured twice. I have watched the changes with much interest and some puzzlement.

IS THIS RABBIT ABANDONED???

House Rabbit Society volunteers get countless calls from well-meaning people who find “orphans” or “abandoned baby rabbits” behind the shed or in a nearby field. Unknowingly they break up families and separate mother rabbits from their babies in an effort to “save” them. The fact is that rabbit’s nurse only once a day – and in the wild spend most of the day away from offspring in order to lead predators away from the nest… but if you don’t know this it is an easy mistake to make…

Have you ever ‘found’ baby rabbits seemingly abandoned… tell us what happened///

T.TOUCH AND HOW IT CAN HELP…

T.Touch is a very gentle massage technique that is used extensively on all animals that are undergoing a stressful situation or even just for general well being. My son has been practising it for years on his horse!

Do you know of and practise this technique already??? Then tell us how your rabbit responds. If not read more to find out how you can help your rabbit achieve optimum feelings of well being…

THE IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR DENTAL CHECKS…

Even if your rabbit has perfectly aligned incisors (front teeth), it is wise for you to allow your rabbit-experienced veterinarian to do regular dental checkups as part of your bunny’s wellness exam. Undetected dental problems in rabbits are a major cause of more serious illnesses which develop due to the pain and stress of sore teeth and jaw. Overgrown teeth are one of those things that can seem to happen out of the blue but in fact are something that happens over the course of time. By having regular checks you can save your bunny from severe distress…

Agree or disagree???

FLOPPY RABBIT SYNDROME…

Over the past few years a large number of rabbits have been lost to this condition. Since the condition was first noted, many different theories have been put forward about its cause, effect and treatment. The article we have linked to traces the different theories, research and treatment that have evolved.

If you have any experience of this condition please do tell us about it now…

THE HOUSE RABBIT SOCIETY…

Read this one members account of the society…. I remember sitting on the floor listening to plans of what the rabbit centre was “going to be”. To me the place looked spacious, but dull and office-like. Little by little the shelter was transformed to such a cheerful place.

Are you a member of this society??? If not maybe you might consider joining??? Tell us your experiences of it too…

Did You Know This…

Not all rabbits carry P. Multocida or as it is more commonly known the snuffles. Also if removed from sources of infection early, a rabbit may never acquire P. multocida infection. But this is not all because not all rabbits with P. multocida get sick. But this is not say that you must underestimate it. P. multocida is still the most common cause of respiratory disease, primarily rhinitis, in rabbits and some P. multocida strains are more virulent than others. Symptoms of this are what you might expect with a disease commonly called the snuffles but you may read a full description at the link included.

If you think your rabbit has this condition then seek expert advice immediately.

What do you know about the snuffles??? Get in touch now and share your experiences…

DO NOT IGNORE THIS

As disgusting as the subject is, we cannot ignore this warm-weather danger. Flies can strike a healthy animal who has temporary loose stools, but at particular risk are your aging, disabled, or overweight rabbits who are not able to clean themselves. Within a 24-hour period an otherwise stable rabbit can enter a terminal state of shock due to maggot infestation. If you have ever seen a fly strike then you will understand the importance of stopping such a thing happening to your rabbit. Check your rabbit at least twice a week in warm weather…

WOULD YOU AGREE THIS IS ENOUGH OR WOULD YOU RECCOMEND MORE???
